Counselors and psychologists are both mental health clinicians. Usually counselors are master’s level clinicians whereas Psychologists have a different license and are doctorate level clinicians with a focus on assessments, research, and teaching.

Generally speaking the terms are interchangeable. There is some history as to why one mental health professional may use therapist or counselor but the most important thing is to focus on the relationship with your clinician.

The most important piece of the counseling puzzle may be the trust you have in the relationship between you and your counselor. If they respect you, listen to you, and generally show that they are attuned to your needs check your gut and see what it says. It’s ok to look for another counselor if you don’t feel like you’re connecting or clicking. I know the search is hard, but it is worth finding the right person.

Counseling sessions usually last 50-55 minutes for most clinicians, however some will offer 45 minute sessions with even less offering 30 minute sessions. Sessions with me are 50-55 minutes.

The first session I’ll get to know you more by asking questions about why you’re seeking counseling and generally about your experiences. We will also collaborate on creating a pathway forward for you.

I’ve found that I work best with folks who initially come once a week. We can move to every other week or once a month once progress has been made.

My rate is $150 a session. You’ll find that counseling can range in price from $50-$350 a session depending on the clinician.

I am not paneled with insurances, however I do offer the option to submit an electronic out-of-network claim to your insurance if your insurance offers out-of-network reimbursement.

As of now (early 2024) my availability is Thursday morning afternoon and early evening, Friday afternoons, and Saturday mornings.

I am currently securing a physical office location in the Lancaster area, however until then I am doing virtual sessions only.
